Key Idea 5: Rates of Change in the Past 250 Years

The first industrial revolution began in the mid 18th century, and since then technology has been quickly evolving to meet our desires for energy, food, travel, and communication. Human inventions have released anthropogenic compounds into our environment, resulting in previously unseen rises in atmospheric gas concentrations and temperature.
