Greenhouse Gases Raise the Effective Radiation Altitude

Higher concentrations of greenhouse gases increase the effective radiation altitude. As the effective radiation altitude increases, the temperature at which emission to space occurs decreases. As a result, less energy is able to escape Earth’s atmosphere, causing the temperature of Earth’s lower troposphere to rise.
